88 Years and Running
streets of Yonkers were taken over by marathoners this past Sunday for the 88th year in a row for a 13
mile half marathon and a full 26.2 mile marathon. The Yonkers
Marathon and Half-Marathon is the second oldest marathon in the world and
attracted more than 1,000 participants.
Our team can attest to the hundreds of runners as we were in
charge of a water station at mile 4.5 (which was also mile 17 since the run was
a loop). We passed out water, Gatorade and cheers as the runners came by – all with
smiles and a thank you. At times we felt like we were in the marathon as they
cheered us for volunteering.
We were lucky enough to have Co-Founder Nick Califano run by us
twice! Nick completed the full marathon with a smile on his face. Great job,
Most of our volunteers are natives of Yonkers and we were proud
to see this many people come out to be part of an 88 year old tradition. It
made us excited for next year and maybe even join in on the fun!
