The Crowlering of First Anniversary Porter
We are less than a week from our big anniversary celebration, which means the release of First Anniversary Porter is only a few days away! Although we are going to be serving it on regular draught AND on nitro, we decided to do a little something special in honor of our birthday: put a limited quantity (about three kegs worth) of First Anniversary Porter in 32oz crowler cans!
Similar to growlers, crowlers allow you to bring beer home fresh off the tap. The advantage of using the latter is that the beer stays good about a week longer than in the former. With the help of DeCicco’s Larchmont and Beer & Bar Manager Brett Diener, we were able to crowler up 135 cans to sale on Saturday during the First Anniversary Bash. To be clear, this will be a super limited engagement; once the crowlers are gone, they are not coming back, so my suggestion would be to come earlier in the day if you want to grab one or two.
The process to crowler them, which we were able to do thanks to DeCicco’s, was a long but fun process. First, we had to get all the oxygen out of the empty, topless can by blasting it with CO2. Then, we filled the can up with draught beer so it was almost overflowing. After that, we press the top on the can and send it to the crowler machine to lock in all the fresh beer. This was our first time canning one our beers, so we are very proud to bring this to you on our first birthday!
First Anniversary Porter is brewed with bourbon barrel aged Crown Maple syrup and local cold brew coffee, coming in at about 9% abv. The First Anniversary Bash goes all day at the brewery, from 10am-midnight, and the first 500 people through the door will received a limited edition anniversary coozie.
